Fees

Many clients still prefer the simplicity of hourly-based charges for legal work, provided of course that rate and time expended are both reasonable. Personal injury cases are handled on a contingent fee basis.

Hourly-based fees have obvious disadvantages. Although they are a blunt measure of effort expended, they do not necessarily reflect value obtained. We have successfully implemented task-based and phase-based fixed fees in some matters, and our goal is to broaden the use of that structure within our practice. Fixed fees bring certainty to clients and to the firm. A fixed-fee structure can also include result-oriented hold-backs and other features to enhance efficiency and reward exceptional results.

Other fee structures are also available. We consider fee-setting and case-budgeting to be a cooperative and transparent process between lawyer and client.
